Stone Work

The use of stone as a building material dates back thousands of years. Stone has a natural beauty that is unlike any other material, and helps to connect a building to its natural landscape. Stone can be incorporated in seating areas, raised beds and fire pits.

Stone can be used for:

  • Flagstone patios (square cut and irregular flagstone)

  • Dry stone retaining walls

  • Double sided free standing walls

  • Stone steps

  • Boulder arrangements to mimic nature

A proper dry stone wall is built without mortar, using gravity and friction to hold its structure. It is build by placing the length of the stones into the wall, covering each joint, and packing the middle with stone instead of gravel. A proper stone wall is constructed with a batter, so the face of the wall leans inward.
